Founded in San Diego, California in 1977, GREGORY’s steadfast focus on innovative design, quality construction, superb fit and outstanding functionality has established the brand as one of the the finest pack manufacturers in the world. To commemorate the bag maker’s 40th anniversary, nonnative has partnered with GREGORY on a special collaborative series. Based around a theme of combining the past with the present, nonnative designer Takayuki Fujii reconfigured two contemporary models, the COMPASS 30 and SKETCH 8, with retrospective designs.

The COMPASS 30’s trail-ready ergonomic shoulder harness give it all the capabilities of an outdoor daypack, while the U-zip access main compartment and a padded laptop sleeve make it a business-savvy office assistant. Its 30-liter capacity offers more than enough space for lunch, gym wear, and a fresh change of clothes. 

The brand labels reference a short-lived logo used between 1983 and 1984 (produced as an interim design when moving factories). At the time the logo was WHITE and BROWN, but for this project the old woven label has been re-configured in WHITE and BLACK. Paying homage to GREGORY’s rich 40 year heritage of innovation, functionality and quality, Takayuki Fujii has applied a retrospective touch to two cutting edge designs. The COMPASS 30 RETRO and SKETCH 8 RETRO feature a 90’s inspired color palette, comprising five unique colorways chosen to represent each of the five Tokyo select shops carrying the collection.
