Blown glass artisan Tomomi Kawakami uses reclaimed soda bottles to craft her exquisite collection of glassware products.

Based in Ibaraki Prefecture, north-east of Tokyo, Kawakami’s work is notable for its organic, flowing contours, sturdy forms, and shimmering transparency. Kawakami seeks to produce functional, daily-use items, that can be employed in a care-free manner. The application of soft, flowing ribs helps the glass sit comfortably in the hand, while the unique thickness of her pieces ensures one can use the item without too much concern of fragility.

Depending on the reclaimed glass being used, and the chemical reactions that occur during the manufacturing process, the glass has a slightly greenish or bluish tint. Kawakami’s work has a serene quality that will bring a refreshing calmness to any dining table.
