The Sensen fan is made from Aso bamboo, coated with persimmon tannin for durability and insect resistance.

Located in Kumamoto prefecture, KURIKAWA SHOUTEN has been producing the traditional Raimin Uchiwa handheld fan since the 1600s. The original ‘Raimin Shibu’ fan is said to have originated from a traveling monk who would teach the making of the fan in exchange for a night's stay at an inn.
