FUTOSHI YAMASHITA’s
square plate

I seem to be drawn to dishes of this size. But I’m also selective in what I buy because I don’t like the clutter of too many dishes in the cupboards.

When I drink tea or coffee at home, I often enjoy sweet treats on the side.
I was drawn to the proper square shape of this plate, which you don't often see in this size.
I like the natural, rough textures of Yamashita-san’s pottery, which is evocative of the surrounding, rugged landscapes of the Aso region where he creates his pieces.
Paired with sweet treats and smooth desserts, they provide a really appealing contrast.

Of course, they can also be used at dinner time. The slightly raised rim means that a bit of sauce is no problem at all. In my home, we often have lots of side dishes at dinner, so I use them as serving plates.
Yamashita-san's pottery, crafted from materials gathered from Aso's land, boasts a richness in form and expression.
You're bound to find something that catches your interest. Please take a look sometime.
