LARGE FLOWER VASE
BY AYOO NAOKI KANAZAWA

April. The cherry blossoms along the Meguro River are in full bloom, and the area is bustling with people. Every year when I see this scene, I feel that spring has truly arrived.
It’s also a time of new beginnings, and I often spot people in the city carrying bouquets of flowers.
Actually, my birthday was last month, and I received so many spring flowers and bulb plants that my home turned into a full-on flower party. Around this time of year, I always start wishing I had a larger flower vase at home.
Right now, we have several large-sized flower vases by Ayoo Naoki Kanazawa in the store. Every time Aki-san, who always arranges our shop flowers, fills one of them, each piece comes alive in such a beautiful way that I can’t decide which to get—and end up not buying any (laughs).
Among them, the series I keep coming back to is Asamoya.
Unlike Kanazawa’s past glazes, this new glaze is inspired by the mist that drifts over the ocean or mountains in the early morning.
The soft, hazy patterns evoke the clear air and tranquil landscapes of Amakusa, bringing a sense of calm no matter the time of day.
Of course, vivid flowers look stunning in it, but these pieces also have a bold presence that beautifully complements large branches.
There are also vases available in other glazes, so why not welcome one into your home this spring?
As for me—I think I’ll keep debating just a little while longer (laughs).
