GOSU FLAT BOWL
BY MASATO AKUTSU

Masato Akutsu, a ceramic artist based in Mashiko, has recently sent us a long-awaited new selection of pieces, and they’ve been very well received.
This particular flat bowl was featured as the main visual for the 2022 "Ginza Tesigoto Chokubaijo" event, and we were so captivated by it that we asked him to recreate it for us.
The gosu glaze, with its soft, beautiful shades of blue, is a dream for anyone who loves blue tones.
The way the glaze pools and deepens toward the edges creates a subtle, mesmerizing contrast.
With its bold, generous size, this flat bowl is perfect for serving a main dish, but it also works wonderfully as a tray for small plates or tea utensils.
It’s the kind of piece that not only serves a functional purpose but also becomes part of your kitchen decor.
While it’s easy to gravitate toward smaller pieces, adding a large, statement piece like this can truly change the flow of your daily life—and that’s part of the fun.
It’s pottery market season now!
Hope you’re enjoying discovering new pieces—just don’t forget to stay hydrated out there!
