ONIMARU TOYOKI KILN
MUG CUP

The cold days are still lingering.
On mornings like these, reaching for a warm drink feels especially comforting, so I wanted to share a mug I would recommend for this season.
These pieces are made by Onimaru Toyoki Kiln, a pottery workshop based in Koishiwara.
Koishiwara ware is a traditional pottery from Toho Village in Fukuoka Prefecture, with a history of around 350 years. It is said to have begun in 1682, when potters were invited from Imari by the Fukuoka domain.
Known for its sense of “beauty in utility,” Koishiwara ware has long been valued as everyday tableware. Onimaru Toyoki Kiln continues these traditional techniques while creating simple, practical pieces for modern use.
When I was looking for a mug, I was immediately drawn to its clean, almost Western-style design and its lightness.
I can already imagine enjoying a hot coffee or café latte in this mug on a cold day.
The combination of the matte texture and a latte-colored drink just feels right.
I am usually rushing in the mornings, but having something to look forward to like this might finally motivate me to wake up a little earlier.
The kiln is about an hour’s drive from Fukuoka city, and it is definitely one of the places I would like to visit this year.
