Have you ever tried beniimo (purple sweet potato) in your drinks?
When we think of beniimo, we might associate it with beniimo tarts and sweets known for their sweet taste and smooth texture. However, just like satsumaimo (Japanese sweet potato), beniimo has its charms that go beyond being just a food ingredient.
First, let me clarify that the one I'm introducing, "IMUGE.," by Taragawa, is not a beniimo shochu or awamori.
It's a distilled spirit made from beniimo sweet potatoes harvested in Miyako Island, along with black sugar, rice koji, and local ingredients. It's a taste that has been cherished by the people of Ryukyu since the time of the Ryukyu Kingdom.
The flavor of IMUGE. Black Label is captivating. You'll first sense a strong kick of alcohol, but when you roll it on your palate, you'll experience the rich sweetness of beniimo, the mineral notes of black sugar, bitterness, spiciness, umami, and more. It offers various ways to enjoy, such as on the rocks, diluted with hot water, or straight, as a pre-dinner drink.

Personally, I prefer serving it over ice with a generous amount of soda, savoring the full-bodied sweetness of beniimo.
I encourage you to discover your preferred way to enjoy Taragawa's "IMUGE." Cheers!
