The other day, I went on a three-day, two-night mountain trip covering Kamikochi → Yokoo → Karasawa → Okuhotaka → Tsurione Ridge → Maehotaka → Dakesawa → Kamikochi. In total, it was over 30 km with roughly 2,000 meters of cumulative elevation gain—a fairly demanding route.

Until now, I had only done one-night, two-day tent trips, so this was my first time spending two nights out in the mountains. It came with plenty of new discoveries.
Being on the trail is always tough to some extent, so I tend to just push through it. But once you arrive at camp, it’s time to eat, relax, and recover for the next day. How well you can let your body recover during those hours makes a huge difference.
One thing I especially wished I had in rocky terrain was a sit pad. When you’re already exhausted, sitting directly on uneven rocks or the ground is surprisingly uncomfortable.
