Founded in 2014 by designer Ryota Murakami and his mother Chiaki, the brand was renamed pillings in 2020. Working with Japanese hand-knit artisans, it creates collections that celebrate the creativity and charm of craftsmanship. The name pillings comes from “pilling,” the fuzz on knitwear, symbolizing the warmth and connections that inspire its designs. Recognized as a semi-finalist for the LVMH Prize, pillings is gaining attention worldwide as a rising knitwear brand.
