The designer of pajama brand NOWHAW, Kotaro Togawa, often describes something as “just the right temperature” – the perfect balance between playful creativity and sincere craftsmanship – resulting in a harmonious outcome that feels just right.
The phrase is a fitting description of both Togawa and NOWHAW as a whole, and of course of our recent collaboration with them.
The special edition “DAY” pajamas are available on Saturday, April 22nd.

The latest in a series of exclusive collaborations sees COVERCHORD team up with “Sleep & Holiday” experts, NOWHAW. The special edition pajama set is available in refined BROWN tartan check, from Saturday, April 22nd.

With the arrival of warmer weather and the chance to create a limited edition item together, plain-colored pajamas seemed uninspiring, while bold patterns and colors felt unconducive for relaxation and rest.

Our goal was to create something that instills a sense of comfort, utilizing a material that can be worn throughout the year and is not limited to a particular season.

Linen, with its dry touch and high breathability, is particularly comfortable during Japan’s hot and humid summer season. However, if the material is too thin it may not withstand air conditioning.

Using a cotton-linen blend with a moderate thickness and warmth allows for strength, softness, and easy care, and is appropriate for all seasons. Revamped in a sophisticated tartan check, the result of the collaboration is “just the right temperature”, in more ways than one.

A short design story
with Kotaro Togawa

Designer Kotaro Togawa founded the NOWHAW brand in 2012 with a singular focus: making comfortable sleep a top priority.

The brand's pajamas, which are designed in collaboration with his wife, go beyond just providing the best sleeping comfort - they also incorporate clever details in stylish designs that make them perfect for wearing outside the bedroom too.

Togawa is known for his playful and lighthearted personality, though he can be serious when the situation calls for it, another example of finding “just the right temperature”.

We sit down with Togawa who shared his witty insights on the details of this latest collaboration.

I’m Kotaro Togawa and I create pajamas with my wife, Chuson.

The "DAY" pajama is one of our staple models and has been a favorite of our customers since we first started our brand.

Though we've made some design updates over the years, the "DAY" pajama has remained a key item in our collection. We're thrilled that it's been selected for this special collaboration!

When we started NOWHAW, we knew we wanted to create pajamas that don’t make us look sloppy, even if we’re wearing them all day long.

We also know that a well-crafted piece of clothing can boost our confidence and make us feel good, so we designed the "DAY" pajama with a notch lapel that takes inspiration from classic blazers.

You'll be amazed at how much more polished and sophisticated you'll feel, even when you're just lounging about at home!

The front patch pocket of the pajamas can fit a book too, functional and perfect for lazy days.

We've always aimed to strike the perfect balance between comfort and style, so you can step out of the house without having to change clothes.

We're committed to creating pajamas that are not only visually appealing but also practical and user-friendly. For example, when doing dishes at home, the sleeves of traditional pajamas tend to slide down and get in the way. It would be great if we could call out to our family for help whenever our hands are covered in soap, but that's not always possible if you’re living alone.　

While some pajamas have cuffs to hold up the sleeves, we wondered if that truly guarantees the best sleeping experience. With "DAY," we've created a design where the fabric on the cuffs of the sleeves is double-layered, which holds the sleeves in place when folded over.

The pants are also designed with the same feature, to prevent the cuffs from getting wet when taking the bins out on a rainy day.

We've also included a belt loop on the right side of the waist, which comes in handy when you need to attach your keys during a quick outing.

As part of our focus on enhancing the night-time experience, we've incorporated a glow-in-the-dark badge and a secret pocket on the back of the lapel. We've designed the pocket to be subtle, so we're hesitant to mention it ourselves... After all, it's probably best to go unnoticed!

We’ve included a Sanskrit chant that means "May you have good dreams." If we wrote it in Sanskrit script directly, it would give off a bit of an occult vibe (laughs), so we opted for a phonetic transcription, which I think strikes the right balance.
