Authentic

An “authentic” item that effortlessly complements any style it's paired with. Its essence lies in its perfected state, there’s nothing to add or take away from its design.

While I try to keep the majority of my sneakers clean, there’s a peculiar charm to Authentics that grows on you as they fade through regular use. The creases, the gradual scuffing around the edges, and even the wear on the entrance and heel, all contribute to and enhance their aesthetic appeal.
I recall the days when I'd buy new pairs and deliberately hasten their aging by putting them through the washing machine and doing Oliies in them.

I’d skate and listen to Tommy Guerrero and be proud of my weathered authentics.
During that time, I suppose I was trying to infuse them with my own personal flair and wear them in a way that felt uniquely mine. If one were to scrutinize, their super low-tech nature means that for skateboarding, they might endure for a session or even handle the occasional shove-it flip, but going overboard can quickly result in their demise. Striking the right balance is important.
Though it's turned into quite an extensive reflection, personally, I'd encourage venturing beyond the initial shiny newness of the Authentic. They really do get better with age.
