I went on a day trip to Mount Kinpu not long ago.

As we ascended, the increasingly ominous clouds swiftly turned to rain at the summit, leaving us deliberating over a suitable spot for lunch.
Normally, I would settle for a quick snack, but that day was different.
I had brought some fancy bread and sausages from a local store in my neighborhood and I was determined to make hotdogs.We settled under a tree but there wasn’t enough cover, so although I managed to start a fire and cook the sausages, we ate wet hotdogs without being able to enjoy it much.

It was this experience that led me to buy this umbrella.
Just setting it on the ground would have saved the meal, and on hot days it can block the relentless sun too.
I never thought much about taking an umbrella to the mountains, but it’s perfect for day hikes when you don’t bring a tarp with you.

And weighing just 175g, it’s now an essential part of my kit.
