KOGEI WALK 2026 begins today, bringing traditional Japanese crafts from across the country to select shops throughout Tokyo, each presenting them from its own perspective. At COVERCHORD, we're introducing Nambu ironware from SUZUKI MORIHISA STUDIO in Iwate Prefecture.
For this event, we've selected mainly smaller pieces to highlight how traditional ironware can be naturally incorporated into everyday life.
Among them, the piece I'd most like to bring into my own home is the SMALL BOX - TEXTURED. Despite its compact size, it has an elegant yet distinctive presence. The subtle contrast between the smooth cast-iron surface and its finely textured details is particularly appealing.
The studio's signature "Morihisa Brown" lends the ironware a softer, more understated character, allowing it to blend naturally into any interior.
Personally, I'd like to use it as an incense burner, filling it with incense ash. The ash would make daily maintenance easier, while the lid could help keep it contained when not in use.
As its name suggests, the box can also be used to store small treasured objects, offering plenty of possibilities beyond its original purpose. Preserving 400 years of tradition while continuing to evolve for modern living, SUZUKI MORIHISA STUDIO creates pieces that deserve to be experienced firsthand.
