OZISM, the first collaboration between the two brands is available now

The first partnership between UNDERCOVER and nonnative came about through the designers’ shared background and appreciation for the Japanese aesthetic, culture, and history, as well as their shared respect for the late film director, Yasujiro Ozu. This became the theme for their collaboration, “OZISM”.
The key concept for the design of this collection is “samu”. Samu is the daily labor of a Buddhist monk, which includes completing chores for the temple and community and is considered an indispensable part of training for practicing Zen. “Samue” is the clothing worn when undertaking this work, a traditional type of workwear that has formed the basis for this collection, which comprises a coat, jacket, long-sleeve t-shirt, GRAMICCI easy pants, and GUIDI back zip boots.
UNDERCOVER designer Jun Takahashi and nonnative designer Takayuki Fujii take a stroll around Engakuji Temple in Kamakura, a location that holds a special significance for the pair and is the final resting place of Yasujiro Ozu.
UNDERCOVER
Founded in 1990 by designer Jun Takahashi, UNDERCOVER combines elements of street fashion, music, art, and subculture to create high-fashion collections with a distinct underground aesthetic. UNDERCOVER has been showing at Paris fashion week since 2002.
nonnative
Established in 1999, Takayuki Fujii became nonnative’s designer in 2001. nonnative combines the durable, functional qualities of workwear, military wear, and outdoor wear with contemporary silhouettes and fabrics to create everyday clothing that is appropriate for a wide range of lifestyles and circumstances.

OZISM
The first collaboration between UNDERCOVER and nonnative was initially sparked by a conversation between the two designers. They agreed that modern, everyday “samue” clothing would be something that they would want to wear. The idea evolved slowly and naturally, more a project between the two designers than the two brands.
In line with the “samue” aesthetic, both the MONK jacket and coat are collarless and have been designed to work as a set with the CLIMBER EASY PANTS by GRAMICCI, a long-time nonnative favorite that has been updated for this collaboration.
A mix of high-performing textiles POLARTEC® Wind Pro® and CORDURA® have been applied, offering heat-retaining properties to outperform the cold. The coat is also equipped with GORE-TEX INFINIUM™, providing further protection against the elements.
Long sleeve t-shirts feature an “OZISM” graphic print, underpinning the collaboration theme. The partnership is marked by an original label and embroidered logo to the sleeve.
The last piece of the capsule collection is the leather back zip boot. The upper design is conceived by UNDERCOVER while the Norwegian welt and Vibram sole are by nonnative, combined and constructed to the highest specifications by GUIDI.
