MT. WASHINGTON POTTERY and
Minted Eggplant Salad

The kind of heat that makes you laugh because what else can you do.
As someone tipping the scales in the triple digits, I don’t love to admit this, but… I’ve completely lost my appetite.
That’s when I remembered a special feature we did last summer with chef Tamaki Hamamori: Summer Dishes on Handcrafted Tableware
She styled a series of refreshing summer dishes using beautiful, handcrafted ceramics.
One of the highlights was a salad centered around mizunasu, or Japanese water eggplant
A mix of umami from bonito flakes (sea) and cheese (animal), brightened with mint and dill. Rich but light, it’s the kind of dish that slips right down—even better with drinks when hosting.
The plate used was the LUNCH 9 by Los Angeles-based ceramicist Beth Katz of MT. WASHINGTON POTTERY
Its quiet blend of wabi-sabi and Scandinavian modernism naturally brings out the character of the food.
If the heat has robbed you of your appetite, this is for you
The full feature is filled with dishes that go down easy even in this sweltering weather.
