Founded in 1882 in Naha, Okinawa, KAMIMURA started selling the first oak barrel-aged aged Awamori (Kūsū) called "Danryu," in 1968, which opened up a new world in the Awamori industry. In 1999, in search of a better environment, the distillery relocated to the foothills of the lush Ishikawa Highlands in central Okinawa Island. They continue to preserve the traditional Ryukyu Awamori using the rich natural environment and traditional techniques.
