Located in Kumamoto prefecture, KURIKAWA SHOUTEN has been producing the traditional Raimin Uchiwa handheld fan since the 1600s. The original ‘Raimin Shibu’ fan is said to have originated from a traveling monk who would teach the making of the fan in exchange for a nights stay at an inn.
